I love the kids I work with but it’s the adults that always throw me for a loop with their nastiness and selfishness. I stay surprised at the amount of drama that can be stirred up by ONE person.

I’ve noticed a pattern of victim hood among my yt female coworkers. When they forget something, it’s someone else fault they didn’t remember. If they don’t complete an assigned task, administers are shrugging and saying “I’m not going to say who, but it didn’t get done”
Let me ease up on working so diligently. They’ve even decided not to retain anyone. Guess who is taking retention out of her vocabulary for as long as she is employed at this school...

I'm submitting applications while at work on this work laptop and I'm past caring if they look in my history :look:

I'm in the odd position of constantly being given props for doing well in my classroom and in my leadership role (9th grade Team Lead) and STILL feeling like....

I can't do this anymore. I'm tired of working here. I'm tired of these students. I'm tired of this demographic. I have put in my time with our low-income black students, and I'm done. I will finish out the year for sure, but after that, nope.

That hurts me to say that. I actually just felt a stomach pain typing and saying that. But I'm still out of here. I have to protect myself and my energy first, and even think about my future family.

It's absolutely exhausting, physically and emotionally. I'm not exaggerating when I say I want to get the hell out of here before my marriage starts so I can be a better wife :look: happier and less drained when I come home

Does anyone else here work with middle schoolers? Do they seem like they get anything done? I worked with high schoolers before, so I think I'm still getting used to the decreased output. But anyone have thoughts or comments on that?

I've taught 7th and 8th grade (currently teaching 8th). The majority of my day is spent redirecting students to get their work done because they tend to prioritize socializing over getting work done. I have found that my students get work done they just take their sweet time with it.

I do and I swear they’re getting on my last nerve. In my case it’s because they’ve been coddled and praised for doing any old thing by their previous teachers. The ones who care about their grades have stepped it up. The ones who don’t continue to do few assignments. I’m done fussing either way.
I taught high school first also.

This is my first year teaching 7th grade Advanced and On-level math and I am still having to discipline like I did the first week of school. I cannot let up a bit or they will lose their minds and nothing will get done. But to answer your question, middle schoolers are so used to being spoon fed that they need multiple prompts just to function.

Tackling a Socratic Seminar tomorrow, my first with this group all year. We've done more informal discussions, but I think it's time for them to experience one that is highly structured and a little bit scary. We are going to be synthesizing ideas from excerpts on nature from Ralph Waldo Emerson and Shakespeare.

We've done sooo much frontloading I know all kids have the basic ideas down, but what I'm excited about is the kids who I know are going to go above and beyond, and even challenging my thinking.

Our division is we are not endorsing it but realize the students participation and will not punish them. The students have organized it.

Yes!! Or constant reassurance that they are doing the right thing.

When I taught 7th grade, I spent the year breaking them of that. Imagine my annoyance that I have this year with the 8th graders. Idk what their teachers were doing last year.......

7th grade has almost broken me. I am starting my specialist in curriculum and instruction this summer. It is a one year program. I need options. I am not leaving the classroom just yet, but definitely in 5 years.

    So I’m hot. Early.
A group message discussing the walk out was started. One lady is like oh they don’t stand during the pledge kids will try to participate- they’re social media driven and don’t know what it’s about. Ummm where were you comments when these dirt poor kids werecheering on trump? Then one is like I hope they get 3 days oss.
And I’m usually quiet but today I had to let them know where I stand. I hope they participate and I won’t support a consequence for it.

This whole walk out thing had me ask myself a question......where is this type of engagement when police are shooting innocent unarmed black people??????
Here is a publicized nationwide walkout due to gun violence (school) at the hands of yt folks (for the most part) but we get nothing.
What if black and brown students organized against the police killing black and brown people would it get this much support and attention?
    Is this really our cause?
    Just a thought.
