The word sheeny (sheenie) is an old racist slur against Jews, although some Jews use it themselves.
It's cherry season ya'll!! I was passing by this orchard down the street from my house and the cherries have arrived!! Move over dried mangoes and make way for my new snack of choice!! WooHoo!!
There's a competitive sport called "hobby horsing" for people that love horses but can't afford a real one

I just learned yesterday that Lacrosse started as a Native American game that women weren't allowed to play. There's a documentary talking about the creation of the first all girls Lacrosse team called "Keepers of the Game".
I didn't know this?!
I learned that the "Mama say mama sa mama coosa" Michael Jackson lyrics came from a song from the 70s: https://americansongwriter.com/2009/02/the-strange-story-of-“mama-say-mama-sa-mama-coosa”/
My sis-in-law sings it as "I'ma bring my mom some barbecue sauce." No, Neq, that's not what Michael is singing. lol
I just learned that out of all the 155 passengers on United Airlines Flight 1549 that landed in the Hudson, there wasn't a black face on that plane. Not sure if the movie just left us out or if we're that on point with self-preservation.

I'm going to use this visual with my son.

A person Friday is a low-level office assistant. Don't think they still use this phrase.
I was watching Match Game and the woman said she was one. Had to Google.
Today I learned that if you're vomiting stool then you should probably get that checked out.
Today I learned that ratchet is ratchet. It doesn't discriminate.
Today I learned that with total laryngeal cancer it means that there's a huge chance that they're going to take out your voice box and insert a soft trach
Today I learned to be sure to clamp off the peg before using. Otherwise if a person with a peg cough, it's going to go flying everywhere.
Sorry for the long post. I'm working overnight
EWWW, waay past time to go to the doctor. What would cause such a situation?
They used to be called "Girl Friday".

I'm actually supposed to be reading some stuff about forensic accounting so i have learned a new designation exists -CFRAC. It means "there are too many flipping designations out there" and also Certified Foresic Accountant
Doc McStuffins is black
I don't do cartoons so I didn't know. Heard the name before but since it's so popular assumed it was a white cartoon. Shame on me, I know
So then I Googled to see if a black person was behind it. Nope. Created by a white woman. (Wasn't even her idea to make the lead black.)
Checked if the cast was mostly black. Mixed.
In the process I learned.....
Hulu doesn't play commercials for cartoons (I think). Had to watch Doc to see how she was portrayed and realized there were no commercials.
Like I said, I don't do cartoons so I don't care to try another cartoon and see if this holds true. But I assume they don't play them so kiddos don't lose interest. Smart.
Gabrielle Maiden (Farrah on Sexless from Black & Sexy TV) is the first African-American female pro snowboarder.
I was watching the show and thinking how dope her hair is. Goggled to find out more about her.
The technical term for hotpants is dolphin shorts or Dolfins.
The name is a corruption of Dolfin, the American company that first produced the original running shorts in the 1980s. Due to their shortness, they are sometimes identified as a form of hotpants.
Found on Wikipedia when looking up Richard Simmons.
Dates come from palm trees.
What? Y'all knew already?
I learn that only a few countries allow for paying people to donate plasma, and the few that do only pay people for their time, not the plasma itself. Due to the latest technology that squirt the red blood cells back into the body, people with small veins are not allowed to donate for money (bruising and/or vessel bursting).
Invented: Closed-Circuit Television
One would not even imagine the possibility of a home surveillance device back in 1966. However, Marie Van Brittan Brown, disgruntled by the slow response of the police to calls for help in her neighbourhood in New York, invented and patented a closed-circuit television security system, along with her partner Albert Brown. Her invention laid the foundation for modern home security systems, crime prevention systems and traffic monitoring.
The mechanism consisted of four peep holes and a camera that could be moved from one peephole to the other reflecting the camera’s images onto a monitor. Doors of the house could also be unlocked using an electrical switch.
(This is what I learned today!)
Everyone has the same routing number-the one you see on your personal checks. They're the same because it goes by what state you live in.
Agatha Christie is the world's #1 selling author of all time! And....those writings are held by Agatha Christie Worldwide Limited.
Guess what: 64% of that company is owned by Robert L. Johnson (creator and former owner of BET).
Chorion found itself in financial difficulties and began to sell off their literary assets on the market, selling their 64% stake in Agatha Christie Limited to the current owner, Acorn Media UK (part of RLJ Entertainment, Inc. and the RLJ Companies, owned by American entrepreneur Robert L. Johnson) during that same month.
The history books got it all wrong.. America never had buffaloes, only bison.
The only true buffaloes are native to Africa and Asia.
Bison (wisent) are also in Europe. Bob Marley was right about the Buffalo soldier.. lol
Yeahhh...they sure do look alike... not.
** Watching Game Changers, a show about the history of game shows **
Alan Thicke originally started as a game show host and producer. I always thought Growing Pains was his first big gig.
He started dating actress Kristy Swanson when she was 17 years old in 1986 and got engaged to her two years later when he was 42.
He married his 2nd wife when she was 25 and he was 47.
Third marriage he was 58 and she was 28.
His half-brother Todd is head writer and executive producer of America's Funniest Home Video.
I noticed everyone on the documentary was old and white and male. So I Googled black game show hosts and was surprised by some of the names, like Donald Faison and Jaleel White (Urkel).
Watching this doc I see why they're all white men. Game shows are nothing but another ol boy's club. This white man creates a show and is friends with another white man whom he recommends as host. Ad nauseum.
Meghan Markle was a Deal or No Deal briefcase chick.
Hey father is Tony Maiden, vocalist/guitarist for Rufus & Chaka Khan.
Jessie Owens was the first person to win 4 gold medals. He did it at the 1936 Olympics in Adolph Hitler's Nazi Germany.
Jesse wore shoes given to him by Adi and Rudi Dressler of the Dressler Brothers Shoe Factory located in Herzogenaurach, Germany during three of the four events in which he won gold medals! The brothers feuded in 1947 and Adi created Adidas and Rudi created Ruda, which later became PUMA.
Ironically, Adidas refused to give Run DMC a deal for 'My Adidis' and their shoes. Yet, it was Jessie Owens who thrust this original company into the international lime light, an African American man. They sought out Jessie and gave him the shoes to wear during the Olympics and the rest is history as they rode on his coattails of Jessie's accomplishments and fame.
Amazing. Truth is stranger than fiction.
John Travolta sang outside of Grease. "Let Her In" is the 1976 debut single by John Travolta, the first release from his second album. It spent five months on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100, peaking at number 10.
And a further twist, Puma has been sponsoring Black athletes for decades. I am going to assume it was the Puma creator's idea to seek Jesse out.
